You couldn't ask for a better day to start a new journey. The sky was mostly clear, with only a few scattered clouds here and there to break up the blue monotony. Sky was also riding on the shoulders of his most prized Pokemon, the legendary Lugia he named Argentum on his travel between Johto and Hoenn. At least the journey wasn't too far to the southwest of Cianwood City, just a length of territory the size of Kanto in between them. He'd promised Professor Birch that he'd let him study Argentum while he was off on journey, that was the only reason he was flying the beast of the sea there instead of catching a ride on his aunt's Dragonite. After losing to Sean on Mt Silver he'd lost some of his confidence, and needed assurance that he truly was worthy of being the World Champion. That's why he was leaving his team behind in Mewtwo's care for their continued training while he started his journey anew in Hoenn. If he could make a team just as capable without having them specifically bred he'd be able to prove to himself that it was indeed his work as a trainer that got him where he was not just the genetics of his partners.
Hoenn was a beautiful region, despite the enormous volcano that sat at its heart. It dwarfed the one in Cinnabar, and he worried a bit what would happen if it were to erupt. Still the citizens had gotten through it in the past, they'd be able to again. At least the sea volcanoes like this one oozed more than they exploded, making it easy to get clear of their wrath once they started spewing. After flying over it he continued onward until he spotted Littleroot Town, and slowly started his circular descent downwards to it. It wasn't long before he was able to spot a crowd of people in front of the Pokemon lab, and a reporter armed with her cameraman already there to take footage of the action. Sky sighed, really not liking the public attention he got now as Champion. He couldn't go anywhere without being recognized, was this why his father stayed away all the time? Still this was different, he didn't have a family to take care of like his father. The responsibilities of them were different, so it was ok for him to hide. Still though, he wasn't going to cancel his plans just because of an annoyance. This journey was going to get done one way or another.
With a few flaps of its wings the silver bird descended into the town, keeping its wings open as it came to a halt in its center a little away from the crowd. It was a crossroads of sorts, leading to the various parts of Littleroot. As expected the crown came running as Sky slid down Argentum's wing, then returned it to its specialized Pokeball. Taking a deep breath he watched as the reporter made her way in front of him, and immediately thrust the microphone in his face. This was going to be a long day... Sky could already tell.

"Are you getting this? He's coming!" a young female exclaimed. The man with the camera nodded as he zoomed in on the shining Lugia and the shadowed figure atop him were coming in for a landing. "Back to me, back to me!" she ordered, and the man zoomed back out and panned the camera back to his reporter. "This is Kira Dexia with Hoenn Regional News. We have confirmed sightings of Champion Sky Coston arriving in Littleroot Town in just a few minutes. We will be here live to bring you the scoop."
As Sky and Lugia landed, Kira and her cameraman raced to beat the rest of the reporters to the landing site. "Kira Dexia, Hoenn Regional News. Sky, can you tell me your reason for coming to Hoenn? Are you planning to take on Hoenn's Elite Four? Or is there something going on that requires your power to solve?" She thrusted the microphone into his face as the camera zoomed in close on his face.
Before anything could be satisified, Professor Birch appeared and said, "Now, now, there's no need for any of this. You're disturbing our tiny little town. I'm quite certain that if you want to speak to Mr. Coston, you can schedule interviews at your stations. Now, if you would please get off my property. Thank you." He finished with a smile as his aides snuck in and swept Sky away from the cameras. Now that he was no longer there, the reporters had no reason to stick around. That may have dissuaded the others, but not Kira. She hid behind the Professor's Lab as he re-entered it.
Meanwhile, a young boy sat at a table, hiding from the windows. As he saw the Professor return, he said, "Are they gone, Professor? That's just what I need. Hoenn's favorite Bad Boy, bullier of Trainers region-wide, to become a Pokemon Trainer. My headlines might need work, but I know they'd say something like this." He stood up and left his Pokedex on the table as he noticed another boy that was possibly near his age beside the good Professor. "Who's this, then? Name's Lanku." He extended his right hand toward the boy. Maybe he could make a friend right away. It'd be nice to have someone else on this journey with him.

Starting off with her name, the reporter immediately began bombarding him with questions without giving Sky time to respond. He'd apparently underestimated the press, he thought he'd be able to do this journey as he had his last with little exposure (after all he was the son of a World Elite Four member at the time) but it seemed that moving up to Champion took that peace away from him. There was nothing going on, he just wanted to restart his journey to prove to himself he was a good trainer. His confidence was broken after failing to defeat the former World Champion then being given his title as Sean stepped down, was he only able to succeed because of the pedigree of his Pokemon that were bred for him? These reasons were personal though, and not something he wanted to share with the public. Sure he could lie and say he just wanted to restart his journey, but that wasn't something a Champion normally did was it?
"Well..." he began, before Professor Birch saved him from the interview. Though he wasn't too keen on doing interviews at their stations, at least it postponed it for now and gave him time to prepare for it. Stepping into the lab with the aides, he scratched the back of his head as they closed the door behind them.
"Thanks," he said quietly, making sure to wait long enough to let Professor Birch hear him as he too entered.
"No problem, I know how pushy they can be when they're trying to get a good story," he replied with a chuckle, patting the Champion on the back as he guided him towards the rear of the building. The blond's attention was then turned to the teenager that awaited them. He seemed to think that the paparazzi were for him, an idea that baffled him. Did he really think that he was so important? Was he supposed to know whoever this guy was? Well apparently he bullied trainers and was going on a journey to become one himself now? What was that about? Lanku then asked Birch who he was, which told Sky that he wasn't as up to date on the news as the others apparently were. Hopefully there were a lot more people like him throughout the region, that would save him a lot of hassle.
"How rude of me, I forgot to tell you who was coming! Why don't you go ahead and introduce yourself?" Birch said with a laugh. Sky nodded, and set his sapphire eyes into the gray orbs of the boy.
"The name's Sky, I'm the World Pokemon Champion," the Champion told him, going ahead and spilling the beans on his title now. It solved the dilemma of having to explain everything to him with the reporters there, who'd probably report on how he was being secretive and use it to add unwarranted mystery to him or to say that he was somehow dishonest in trying to keep it secret... Which would be true, but Sky knew it wouldn't remain a secret long anyway.
"That's right, he's come to Hoenn to start another journey and test himself with a brand new team! I'm giving him a starter Pokemon as well, he could catch one outside of town on his own but we figured it was best for me to give him one. In exchange he's letting me study his legendary Pokemon, Lugia!"

"Well, now, this is a surprise! You mean Regional Champion, right?" Lanku shook Sky's hand as Birch explained what he was doing here. "So the Champ is going to start fresh here, eh? That's cool. Which Pokemon are ya gonna get? I've already got mine." It was then that Lanku realized what Birch just said to him. "Wait, Lugia? What's that? I wanna see!" He could barely contain his enthusiasm, forgetting all about Sky. Yeah, being the Champ is cool and all, but a Legendary Pokemon is so much cooler. After all, he barely knew of Hoenn's legends. Lanku only had stories from an old friend about other Legendaries.
Lanku ran to the table he was sitting at earlier and grabbed his Pokedex, opening it and trying to find information on Lugia. All his Pokedex held was a shadow. Part of his new task was to find and scan as many Pokemon as he could. He had plans to build a team that could take on anyone and help protect others. To do that, he'd have to search all of Hoenn and beyond, if necessary. "Hey, Professor," Lanku started with a frustrated look on his face, "Why'd you have to make your Pokedex like this? Surely there'd be pictures of every Pokemon by now." He looked at the bits of his Pokedex that were complete for a second. The three Pokemon that Birch had offered to him were in there, each with information about abilities and biographies. He thought that perhaps this was the point of the whole thing. Trainers had to roam the region and find every Pokemon they could to examine and study, ultimately leading to the best partners for them. He thought about his old friend's Pokemon and wondered where they were in the list, but that would come later. For now, he wanted to see and scan Lugia.

Before he could even correct Lanku's misinterpretation of his title or answer his question, the boy was already prattling on about wanting to see Argentum. Diamond Wing was still in his grasp, not the professor's, so at least he wouldn't be forgotten for too long. While the badass searched his Pokedex, presumably for Lugia, then complained about it to the professor who just laughed at the whole situation and shook his head.
"You definitely have a lot to learn young man, but I guess I should've explained everything better. That's why it's good you ask questions! So these type of misinterpretations can be cleared up before they really set inside your head," he began, placing a hand on Sky's shoulder. "He's not the regional Champion, you see there is a Pokemon League above all of the regions we call the World Pokemon League. Sky is Champion of that, not Hoenn's Champion," he explained, and Sky glanced to the side. It was uncomfortable to have everything about him explained with him right there, but at least Birch moved on quickly to the next topic. "As for your Pokedex, yes I could give you a completed one but I think it's important for you to learn about Pokemon and grow on your journey, not just have it all handed to you. That's why it's empty, for you to learn things for yourself!"
That last sentence made Sky's eyes fall towards the ground. Was this a jab towards him? After all he'd studied Pokemon for the four years before his journey began and made plans and learned so much before his journey even began. That was part of the reason he was given a completed Pokedex after all. Or was this just an innocent comment because of the boy's situation? Either way, he didn't know and the comment had his heart sink. Trying not to sigh or continue to look defeated, his eyes glanced towards the door. There was still a crowd outside, as he expected. Well, now was a good a time as any to end this awkward situation and face what he needed to. Get through all this, then he could start his journey.
"Guess we might as well show you before we head off," the blond spoke up, walking forward to grab Mudkip's Pokeball off of the desk before placing it on his belt. With Diamond Wing in hand he walked passed the professor and paused at the door, taking a deep breath before he headed back outside. It was now or never he guessed, no need to drag this out any longer. The crowd actually gave him space this time, though they were cheering him on and wishing him luck. Though he didn't want the attention, it was better than the awkwardness he'd felt inside.
"Hoho, always taking the lead. Come on, let's go see!" Birch told Lanku, turning and walking after the Champion.
On the other edge of the crowd now, Sky tossed the unique Pokeball into the air and caught it again. Glancing over his shoulder to make sure they were here now, he then looked forward and held out Diamond Wing as he quietly spoke so no one else could hear him clearly.
"Alright Argentum, let's show him who you are. After this you'll get a nice long rest, before the Professor starts his research. Don't worry, I'll be back before you now it," finishing up, he spoke louder, "Argentum, I choose you!"
With that a teal light erupted from the Pokeball, forming into the large and powerful Lugia who let out a cry of power while it flapped its wings. The wind from it nearly blew everyone over, then it landed on its feet with his wings spread. Setting its eyes upon Sky it nodded, then looked directly at Lanku.
"Is this what you wanted?" it asked telepathically, his voice echoing throughout the minds of all present.
